How does the Northern Virginia Writing Project impact student performance? By honoring and making visible the wisdom of practice that great teachers bring to their work, and through building networks that support the professional activity and standing of teachers. We impact the students our Teacher Consultants teach for the rest of their teaching lives, the teachers they mentor and lead, as well as the departments, schools, and communities in which they live and work.
We like to use the analogy of the ripple effect to describe our impact because while our aim is the improvement of instruction, writing, and learning for students our strategy focuses on the professional development of teachers.
